In a bold step towards combating graft, the top management of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) have signed integrity pledges with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC). This move aligns with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's firm stance against corruption and unethical practices.
RBZ Governor Dr. John Mushayavanhu, Deputy Governors Dr. Jesimen Chipika and Dr. Innocent Matshe, along with other senior officials at the central bank, have formally committed themselves to serving the Zimbabwean people with honesty and diligence. These integrity pledges represent social contracts where individuals affirm their dedication to fighting corruption and upholding the law.
Speaking after signing the pledge, Dr. Mushayavanhu emphasized that he and his team will walk the talk, ensuring the RBZ remains corruption-free in all its operations. "Upholding integrity is a crucial pillar of our work, and it is in sync with the goals of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1)," he stated.
ZACC Chairperson Mr. Michael Reza lauded the RBZ's action, describing it as a pivotal step in Zimbabwe's ongoing efforts to entrench transparency and accountability in the public sector. He noted that the central bank's immense responsibility and influence within the NDS1 framework demands unwavering integrity from its leadership.
"The public commitment by the Governor and other senior officials to uphold integrity is a concrete affirmation that it is the lifeblood of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe," said Mr. Reza. "It is a total rejection of corruption and dubious conduct in the implementation of the country's monetary policies."
This initiative is expected to bolster public and international trust in the central bank's ability to maintain price and financial stability, which are critical for effective economic planning and preserving the value of Zimbabwe's local currency.
