The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development advises that holders of a Class 2 driver's license in Zimbabwe who wish to drive light motor vehicles in other countries must either come back to the country to downgrade or obtain a Class 4 license in the UK
This change comes after numerous drivers in the UK who have Zimbabwean licenses were inconvenienced when trying to convert their licenses to a British one. Authorities in the UK required these drivers to produce Certificates of Competency, which are only temporary documents, before they could convert their licenses.
The ministry has stated that the latest official position regarding the conversion of Zimbabwean licenses in the UK is that the license body will only accept those who were officially tested and are Class 4 or Class 2 license holders..
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development through the Central Vehicle Registry in conjunction with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) of the United Kingdom is advising the public of the new policy position about the exchange of the Zimbabwe driver’s license in the United Kingdom whereby DVLA will only entertain the exchange of Class 4 driver’s license for those competently tested for driving the light motor vehicles and class 2 for those driving trucks.
Holders of Class 2 drivers license intending to drive light motor vehicles must either come back to Zimbabwe and downgrade or obtain their Class 4 in the United Kingdom.
The Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) encourages those affected to bring their driver's license to their offices for assistance. Anyone looking to downgrade from Class 2 to Class 4 should visit the CVR offices before going to the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID).
